MD of Bighorn acreages & farmland
The Municipal District of Bighorn No. 8 is west of Calgary and Cochrane, along the Bow Valley between Rocky View County and Banff National Park. It wraps around the Town of Canmore, which is separate, and much of its area is provincial Crown land. Stoney Nakoda Nation lands neighbour parts of the MD.

Water, wells & servicing
Some hamlets are on communal water and wastewater systems, while rural parcels usually rely on wells and private septic. Ask which applies to the property. In the mountains, also look at wildfire risk (FireSmart work around the house), slopes, and flood hazard mapping near the Bow River and creeks.
Zoning & subdivision
The MD has its own Land Use Bylaw and area structure plans for its hamlets. Development in the Bow Valley also has to respect wildlife corridors, steep slopes and river setbacks. If you're thinking about a short-term or vacation rental, confirm the MD's current rules before you buy.
